Origin: Lumbini Estate, Sri Lanka
The Ruhuna (Ruhunu) region of Sri Lanka lies on the southeastern part of the island and only began tea production around 1900. Teas from this region are referred to as low-grown teas as the tea estates lie at an altitude between sea level and 2,000 ft.
Ruhuna teas are characterized as full-bodied and robust. Harvested near the Sinharaja Forest Reserve (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Lumbini OP1 has a rich aroma and flavor. A very satisfying tea with notes of wood, orange zest and a dry, plum-like finish. Makes for a delicious breakfast tea, but perfect any time of day.
Preparation: Bring water to a boil. Use 1 tsp of tea per cup. Steep 3-5 minutes. Excellent on its own or add milk and sugar as desired.
