The gaiwan, or lidded bowl, originated in the Ming Dynasty in China and consists of a lid, cup and saucer. Used traditionally in the gongfu method of preparing tea, a gaiwan is particularly ideal for large or rolled tea leaves, such as oolong or jasmine pearl, as it allows one to appreciate not only the aroma but the beauty of the unfurling of the leaves.
Our gaiwan is made of brown Yixing clay and porcelain with a dragon motif. Hand rinse and air dry. Set of two.
